A honest view on wedding directories

Friday 10th February 2017

For those of us who run a wedding venue or own a wedding business I think we could all agree that there are way to many directories out there. They all claim to do different things, generate you "x" amount of business, have so many thousand brides etc etc etc... Ultimately though the main question nowadays should be "what are they doing that's different?" and the answer from 99% will be NOTHING!!

I run The Holy Bridal, a unique wedding directory that genuinely offers something different! We operate with a simple business model and make no promises about how many bookings you will get or how many website clicks we generate. All we guarantee is that we will do our best to promote our app and get as many brides-to-be downloading as we can. Hopefully by doing that, you as a supplier will pick up business from us. Honesty is the best policy here and you can't say fairer than that.

Yes we do inform you of how many downloads & users we have and yes we have over 750 businesses advertising with us but these figures are accurate & up to date. Certain directories boast about having 100,000 brides on their databases but how many of those are actually in the market for suppliers still? How many have already got married and are no longer relevant!? I would say quite a lot.

Same goes for website stats, "we get 125,000 unique visitors per month" Great! Who are they? No idea and that's it, they use these highly exaggerated stats to pull you in but how many of those are actually brides, in your areas looking for businesses like yours? It's impossible to know. At least with our app, know who is downloading it, we know their location & we know their wedding date.

It's your choice how you market your business but with technology as it is now apps are certainly the way forward. I believe we are ahead of the game and if you want to try something different then please drop me a line and I will be more than happy to answer your questions.

So you're getting married

Tuesday 2nd February 2016

So this is it, for real, you’re getting married! Once the buzz, the tears and the many celebratory drinks have passed it is time to stare directly down the budget-barrel and plan your big day.

Having spoken to many Holy Bridal brides-to-be, we have unearthed a common theme. The vast majority of our app-users have agreed that the biggest concern of their days is the overwhelming desire for their guests to think it’s the best wedding they have ever attended.

STOP RIGHT THERE!

Sure you want a better colour theme than Hannah, nicer bunting than Charlotte and a band to keep your friends dancing until 3am (unlike the unfortunate wedding of Laura, your work colleague who had DJ Dave spinning the discs.) But consuming yourself with competition, will not mean your day is all you wanted and more. It will lead to you getting yourself in a tizzy and distracting yourself from what really matters.

Here are our Top10Tips for ensuring you have the day of your dreams!

Beating The January Blues

Wednesday 20th January 2016

Let’s face it, the festivities are over. Gone are the days off work, spent at home seeing how many Quality Street you can consume before falling into a Christmas coma. Reality has well and truly set in, as you switch on your computer at work and try not to battle your co-worker Janet about the coffee lumps left in the sugar pot for the third day running.

So, what next? Well, here at The Holy Bridal we have devised a little January plan to help you get back on track.

1) Wake up early – waking up early each morning requires discipline and affords you the opportunity to take your time each day and ensure that your body and mind are fully prepared for what lies ahead. We know that lying in that warm bed, replicating the pig in blanket you have all too often seen of late can seem like the best option, but invigorating yourself with a calm morning will ensure a calm day. Give it a try!

2) Laugh every day – laughing and letting go is sometimes the last thing you want to do when you’re feeling low or done, but a good dose of laughter lifts not only your mood, but others around you. Changing the way you feel with a small action like laughter is empowering, it gives you the chance to completely change your day. Scientifically your body doesn’t know the difference between real or fake laughter, so if your next door neighbour has once again let their cat decorate your lawn, laugh about it. You’ll be surprised at the results.

3) Be specific – people make New Year’s resolutions out of guilt that tend to be vague and tricky, like ‘save money’, ‘lose weight’ and ‘be more organised’. Resolutions in the form are likely to fail and only add to the stress of an already awkward month. Be specific with what you want and stick to it, with a focused approach to the changes you want to make, success is far more likely. Go you!

Overall, just allow yourself time to make yourself happy in whatever way you see fit.

In the wise words of Mahatma Gandhi, “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony”
